Update March 2024 Please go to the new IPE website: indianpartseurope.com
Parts list for 750cc 741 with XL flywheels. This is a complete list of the parts you need for the lower end (flywheels, rods, bearings), including used and new Harley parts, special IPE stroker parts and regular Indian parts. You will have to find the Harley parts yourself, but IPE has all the rest. Ask if you have any questions. You can print this page (and all other pages on the site). Prices are each.
Sport Scout: Lower ends on 741 and SS are identical but pistons are not. Keeping that in mind, you can use this list for a stroker Sport Scout.
2023 - none of this is available any more - ask about alternatives
? = You will have to find these parts yourself.
Qty. P/N Used Harley parts (IPE can't help with these parts) EUR (EU) (World)
1 - Flywheels, pair. 900 or 1000cc "Ironhead" Sportster, 1957 to early 1981. Outward flywheel faces must be turned down to take Indian thrust washers, and the special P/N 20B101XL IPE pinion bearing housing used to make the XL wheels fit in Indian cases. See note on used HD parts on main stroker page.

1 - Connecting rods, pair - possibly, but the new rod kit below is usually easier, better and cheaper than rebuilding a set of used rods. I have not included any parts in this list for rebuilding used rods and big end assy. If you want to do it yourself, basically, you will need a set of good rods, rod races, crank pin, rollers in the right size, roller retainers, crank pin thrust washers in the right thickness, wrist pin bushings and the small parts below. Parts like the races and bushings might have to be either an off the shelf O/S, or custom made. You will also need a Sunnen hone or similar (or lapping gear if you want to do it the Wigwam Way), and some sort of rod checking jig. There is a good article here on fairly low tech rod rebuilding, part of a series on flywheel rebuild; you might want to read the other parts too - links in article. See note on used HD parts on main stroker page.

New Harley parts (IPE has some of these parts)
1 XLRODS Connecting rod and big end kit. New rods with big end bearing rings and wrist pin bushings fitted and sized, rollers, roller cages, crank pin and nuts. PHOTO
2 ?? Thrust washer, crank pin. These are available in steel for steel roller retainers and bronze for retainers in aluminum (the new rod kits have aluminum retainers). Depending on the tapers in your used flywheels you may have to have washers ground down to obtain the correct end play (aim for .010" - .015" or 0.25mm - 0.38mm end play between flywheels).
?
?
2 8011(?) Nut, pinion and drive shaft. If your flywheels come with shafts and nuts you may be able to use the nuts again, but check the threads carefully.

2 24015-36A Lock washer, pinion/drive shaft nuts.

IPE Stroker Parts (IPE has all of these parts!)
1 39348XL Pinion shaft, XL flywheels in 741/Sport Scout cases. These shafts take XL nut and key at the flywheel end and stock Indian nut at the outer end.
1 41044XL Drive shaft, XL flywheels in 741/Sport Scout cases. These also take an XL nut and key at the flywheel end and stock Indian nut at the outer end.
1 20B101XL Pinion bearing housing. These are slightly longer than stock, sticking a bit further into the cases to make up for the narrow flywheel assy. Furthermore they are made for line honing of the main bearings, so the small lip around the case bore in the cam case must be removed (ask before cutting if in doubt!). I need to know which OD you want your new pinion housing in. They are in stock semi-finished and are ground to size. The reason for this is that you can now line hone the main bearing bores in your cases back to round before fitting new bearing housings. After fitting in the case, the housing must be finish honed to size internally. Se note here on crank location (side to side).
1 75494S Pistons, special stroker. These pistons have approximately 4 mm "pop-up" (like the factory's Bonneville pistons), and need the cylinder heads relieved for this. Pins fit WL/XL rod bushings. Pistons come as a set of two, with rings, pins and circlips.
Stock Indian Parts (IPE has all of these parts too!!)
1 40872OS

40872FIX

Drive side bearing housing. These are available in stock configuration, or as a "nose fix" to repair busted drive side case bearing noses. Either can be had in custom O/S outer diameter (for the reasons outlined above) as they are in stock semi-finished and are gound to size. If you need the nose fix, see here which other parts you will need for this. After fitting in case, the housing (either type) must be finish honed to size internally.

1 40872 Drive side bearing housing. If your drive side case is like new you might be able to get by with a stock OD bearing housing. Available off the shelf, thus cheaper than the custom races above. After fitting in case, the housing (either type) must be finish honed to size internally.
1 39374S Bearing nut, outer with oil seal. Fits stock case bearing nose or nose fix. PHOTO
1 39374SEAL Oil seal, spare.
4 27B182 Retainer, rollers, drive side. If your engine already has these they can usually be used again, but check for deformation and wear..
2 27B182 Retainer, rollers, pinion side. Note: The new pinion shaft is thicker than the stock shaft, so the stock 741 pinion side retainers (P/N 27B263) are now too small. Use the same retainers as on the drive side. These are also used for the rods on a 741, so if you split your old 741 flywheels you may be able to use two of the four retainers here on the pinion side of the stroker engine.
60 16A15-size Rollers, drive and pinion shafts (40 for the drive side and 20 for the pinion side - not necessarily the same size). Available in these sizes (specify by P/N when ordering). Price is for 60 rollers.

1 40427 Spacer, drive side bearing. If your engine already has this it can usually be used again.
2 27B174-size Thrust washer, pinion and drive side - correct thickness must be selected when assembling the engine; you can't guess in advance (aim for .010" - .020" or 0.25mm - 0.50mm total end play in cases). Available in these nominal sizes, and custom sizes to order:

? 27B174-047 Thrust washer, pinion and drive side .047" (1.20mm).
? 27B174-057 Thrust washer, pinion and drive side .057" (1.45mm).
